But the gardens are gorgeous, the house is a clean window into a vanished world of live-in staff and formal dinners, and the nature-preserve trails behind the estate are quieter and free-feeling. Spring bloom and fall color are the two times it fully delivers.
02How to experience it
It's on Cañada Road near Woodside, so pair it with Pulgas Water Temple and the Sawyer Camp Trail, all a short hop apart. Tickets are timed; go at opening in spring to beat the crowds, or in fall for color and calm. The estate's preserve trails give you the quieter edges.
