01Why it's worth it
From the ridge of the Berkeley Hills the entire metropolitan bay arranges itself in one frame: Golden Gate dead ahead, both bridges, the city stacked behind Alcatraz, and at dusk a carpet of lights coming up from Oakland to Richmond. Locals argue it beats every paid view in the region ("on a good, clear evening you can see straight out the Golden Gate, Bay Bridge, SF skyline, Marin"). The Wall itself — a short graffiti-covered retaining ledge near Claremont Avenue, long claimed by motorcyclists — is the connoisseur's stop: less parking-lot, more perch. It's a scene on warm weekend nights (car meets, occasional closures of the pullouts), and it's a viewpoint, not a destination — depth comes from what it shows you, not what's there.
02How to experience it
Take Claremont Avenue up from Berkeley or Fish Ranch Road from the Caldecott, then cruise Grizzly Peak Blvd between Claremont and Lomas Cantadas and pick your pullout. Arrive 30 minutes before sunset, stay for blue hour. Pairs with the Tilden steam trains just up the ridge, or Fish Ranch Road down into Orinda for dinner.
