01Why it's worth it
Calistoga sits on a geothermal hot spot, and this little private geyser taps it: superheated groundwater blasts thirty to sixty feet into the air every few minutes, one of only a handful of "faithful" (regularly erupting) geysers in the world. You don't have to wait long or hike anywhere; you sit in a viewing area and it goes off on schedule. It's frankly a small, kitschy, family-run roadside attraction, with a petting zoo of fainting goats and a gift shop, so calibrate accordingly, this is a fun half-hour, not a Yellowstone. But a genuine geyser erupting on demand, plus goats that keel over when startled, is a wholesomely weird stop, and it rounds out Calistoga's volcanic oddities with the Petrified Forest down the road.
02How to experience it
It's just north of Calistoga, a small admission. Watch a cycle or two (eruptions come every few minutes), say hi to the fainting goats, and move on. Pair it with the Petrified Forest and Calistoga's hot springs and mud baths for a full geothermal-weirdness day.
