01Why it's worth it
Half Moon Bay is the hub of this stretch, and it's worth an hour on foot even though it's nobody's secret. Main Street is a preserved run of 19th-century storefronts, bakeries, and bars a few blocks long, and the state beach on the edge of town opens onto miles of sand with a paved coastal trail you can walk or ride. It's the resupply-and-regroup point between the wilder spots north and south, backed by the pumpkin fields that turn the town into a circus every October. Treat it as base camp rather than a destination, and it earns its place.
02How to experience it
Park off Main Street and walk it end to end, hit a bakery, then drop to Half Moon Bay State Beach for the sand or the coastal trail. Skip it the weekends around Halloween unless you specifically want the Pumpkin Festival.
