The hook
An unlocked garage on a farm road, stocked with snacks, coffee, and spare tubes, that runs entirely on the honor system for whoever rides by.
01Why it's worth it
A mile up Tunitas Creek Road from Highway 1, someone turned an old one-car garage into a 24/7 supply shack for cyclists. Inside: snacks, drinks, organic coffee and tea, emergency bike parts, a picnic table, a porta-potty, and a logbook that's half road-conditions board and half years of scrawled notes from strangers. Nobody's watching. You take what you need and leave money in a box. The farm behind it, Potrero Nuevo, is run by a nonprofit that employs people who've been homeless and gives away tens of thousands of pounds of produce, so the whole thing is quietly generous in a way that sneaks up on you. It only really makes sense if you arrive on a bike, halfway up a climb, which is exactly the point.
02How to experience it
Roll in mid-ride on Tunitas Creek Road, refill your bottles, put a couple of dollars in the box, and add a line to the logbook. Bring small bills. It's a supply stop and a breather, not a destination you drive to.
