The park most people blow past on the way to somewhere more famous, and the one a few of them come back raving about.
01Why it's worth it
A tight canyon at the south end of Big Sur that stacks four different things in a short walk: a redwood grove, a set of 1880s lime kilns rusting in the trees, a creek, and a beach where the canyon meets the sea. It's small, which is the point. You get the range of the whole coast without the crowds it usually comes with. The waterfall trail closes for repairs on and off, so check before you count on it.
02Skip the cliché
This is the antidote to the Bixby Bridge scrum. If the big-name pullouts up the coast feel like a parking lot, drop south to here instead.
From the locals
One family that camped the whole coast put it plainly after ticking off the famous stops: "Limekiln has the coolest beach I've ever seen, and the nature on the trail was breathtaking... Limekiln is a can't miss in my book." It came up once in a month of posts. That's usually the tell.
